Silicone Sheet– Safe and Effective Applications

27

A wide variety of applications make use of the inert, synthetic compound called silicone.  Medical applications, lubricants, sealants, adhesives, implants, insulation and even your cookware find good use of it.  Typically, the silicone sheet has heat-resistant and rubber-like properties.

Carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen combine with silicon to form the polymers called silicone.  Its properties include resistance to heat, ultra-violet light, ozone and weathering.  Good electrical insulation properties are also shown by silicone.  Its smoke toxicity is relatively low.

The rubber industry uses the term silicone for silicone rubber.  The pharmaceutical, food and beverage industry requires the manufacture of parts made out of silicone.  Pumps, suctions, infusion, machine circuits, and equipment have extensive use of environmentally-friendly silicone tubing.  When you dispose of it by incineration, it does not release any toxic fumes unlike plastic alternatives.

Solid sheets are quality-tested for the various applications.  Medical, pharmaceutical and food processing industries prefer the use of the physiologically inert compound.  There are various general, industrial and mining applications for the comprehensive range of rubber sheets.  Sheet products of silicone can be fabricated to your exact specifications and accurate dimensions.

Treating burns and scars in medical history has long found use for silicone sheeting.  For many years, surgeons, hospitals, and burn centers keep great interest in the treatment of scars.  One type of treatment is the silicone scar sheet.  It reduces the appearance of your existing scars and prevents the formation of new ones.  The sheeting may only make your scars less visible as scars cannot completely disappear with the use of a product.

Although the exact mechanism of the sheeting is not known, it is proven to be very effective.  The improvement of your scar color is attributed to several factors like hydration, increased pressure, oxygen tension and silicone oil presence.  Silicone gel is used to line one side while a smooth fabric or transparent film on the other side.  Clinical studies support the effectiveness and safety of the technology.

Healing your postoperative wound can be encouraged by the mouldable sheet.  The redness, itching and discomfort that go with the wound are reduced by it.  The wound of your caesarean section is closed as a protective barrier is provided by the sheet.  Without the use of adhesives, the layer of silicone easily adheres to your skin.  Excellent physical properties are offered by silicone rubber sheets which are available in various thicknesses.  You can also have them in white, red and translucent.

Minimizing scar appearance is more beneficial to you by the use of the silicone sheet compared to gels and ointments.  Being able to put direct pressure on the scar is the main benefit of the sheet.  You can use it conveniently day to day as it is easier to apply.  It does not stick to your clothes nor stain them.
